Learning & Research

An open library of what our community teaches, and honest research on how trust, connection and collaboration are built.

Residents seated in a bright open-air room, listening and taking notes during a session.

Who it serves

Anyone building with others, anywhere in the world, including people who will never attend a residency. The library and our research are free.

How people are chosen

Open to all. No application needed.

What a gift funds

Recording and publishing sessions, running our impact research, and toolkits that help communities run their own residencies.

Outcomes so far

  • Session topics in 2026 ranged from AI to the Igbo apprenticeship system
  • Two years of published impact research, including the limitations
  • 110+ sessions in 2025 and 50+ experiences in 2026 to draw on

Why a library

At both residencies, many of the most valuable sessions were the ones residents ran for each other. That knowledge shouldn’t disappear when the residency ends. The library captures it and makes it free for anyone.

In the library

  • What Roles Men Play in the Collective Consciousness with Peter Maina: a men’s circle on vulnerability, leadership and the expectations African men carry
  • Collective Individualism with Anthony Kumako: balancing personal ambition with contribution to the collective
  • Privacy: Someone Might Know More Than You Think About You with Nelly: digital privacy and visibility
  • SEO, AEO and GEO with Sheila Watetu and Reginald Alango: how discoverability and trust are changing as AI reshapes search
  • Social Capital: Leverage Redefined with Michael Lawal and Aurelia: how long-term relationships create value beyond networking
  • Nwa-Boy System with Ada: what the Igbo apprenticeship model teaches about building stronger ecosystems
  • The Art of Storytelling with Beniah: creating shared meaning and understanding
  • Truth, Trust, Then Systems with Pishikeni and Meave: trust as the foundation of systems that last
  • AI learning sessions with Francesca: near-daily sessions on artificial intelligence, its uses and what it means for builders

Recordings and write-ups will be added here as they are published.

Research on the human layer

The human-layer framework treats trust, belonging, identity, leadership, wellbeing and community as the foundations of how people build. We measure it at every residency and publish the results, good and bad. In 2026, residents helped design the survey, and an anonymous channel let them raise concerns safely. Read the findings on our Impact page.

Run your own

Residents have asked for toolkits to take the model to new cities and new countries. We are building them from what we learned in Kilifi, and will publish them here.

Charitable purpose: Advancing the education and skills of young people, especially in technology, enterprise and the creative industries.
